First Nine Weeks

I have officially survived my first nine weeks as a teacher! And upon having my first official Project-TEACH (first year) catch-up with the principal and other first year teacher, I feel that I am in as about a good position as I could be.

And in these nine weeks, I have honestly probably learned more than I have taught. So I am going to list some of the most important things I have learned thus far.

1. I like to get there early in the morning, to have more time to prepare for the day, but that does not make waking up any easier.

2. For lesson planning, bribery in the form of rom-coms on TV is an acceptable way to force yourself to be productive.

3. It is completely okay, to have an out of control class complete paperwork and then for the next five minutes lay on your rug and stare at your ceiling after they leave.

4. You will end up filtering statements in your head more as a teacher, than at any other point in your life.

5. Being a teacher just means designating a brave student to kill bugs. Just because I'm the adult doesn't mean I'm not afraid of bugs.

6. Students still get enjoyment in 5th grade at being a name taker in class. It's like watching The Hunger Games "may the odds of your name not being on this list be ever in your favor."

7. One of the funniest things is watching children try so hard to stay upset when you can see the smile breaking through.
